Fisher Towers Trail Hike Guide
Fisher Towers trail is a short out and back hike located about 20 minutes outside of Moab, Utah. This area is extremely popular with climbers but also makes for a great hike as well. Like many of the hikes in and near Moab, this one is typically popular year-round but does not require reservations or a fee to complete. Hikers get to travel under massive red rock formations and the trail ends at an overlook where you get a unique perspective of the towers as well.

Directions to Fisher Towers
Trailhead: Fisher Towers
Getting Here: From Moab, Utah head on UT-128 East for about 21 miles until you reach Fisher Towers Road. Continue on this road for 2.1 miles to reach the trailhead. The lower parking area is much larger and adds minimal distance or you can park at the upper lot. The road is dirt but should not present any problems to 99% of vehicles.
Parking: The lower parking area is much larger than the top one. This is a very popular spot for hikers and climbers but usually parking will not be an issue. The upper parking area has a non-plumbing bathroom located in it as well. Either parking area works fine for starting this hike.
Fee: None
Summary
Dogs: Fisher Tower trail is SORT of dog friendly. 99% of the hike is, but about a mile in there is an 8ft ladder which could be very challenging for you and your dog. We made it work with Aria since she wears a harness on her hikes but if your dog is larger and does not, this could be quite a challenge. Watch my guide on exactly what to expect before bringing your dog.
Camping: The closest established campground is the Lower Onion Creek sites, more information here. However, it’s Moab and there are quite literally a million options on camping options (both paid and dispersed) in the area.
Hike Xfactor(s): I have mentioned this a few times but what really drew me to this hike and what Jackie and I enjoyed about it is that it’s so close to Moab but not as popular as the other hikes in the area, at least for us. Additionally, it does not require a fee or a reservation + parking was so easy and getting to the trailhead did not require a 4×4 vehicle.
Hike Tip(s): When hiking Fisher Tower trail, avoid summer months and hot days whenever possible. If you start your hike during the morning, the hike is usually shaded until about 11:30/12:00PM. If you do plan on bringing your dog or small children, please watch my full guide to make sure the move is okay for everyone in your party.
Best Views: The Fisher Tower trail offers great desert views from start to finish but some of my favorite perspectives were under the towers themselves. The end of the trail is also a nice spot for a group photo or even picnic.
Make it a Loop: This is an out and back hike but if you have recommendations for other hikes in the immediate vicinity, please let me know in the comments below!
