Hiker Hunger Trekking Poles Review
Hiker Hunger carbon fiber trekking poles are one of many products made by the Boston, MA based company. As any hiker knows, a trusty pair of hiking poles can be a life saver in all sorts of conditions out in nature. These collapsible carbon fiber poles come in a carrying bag with a variety of tips for use in all sorts of terrain. Lightweight, carbon and collapsible – but do these trekking poles get my recommendation?
Background
I have been using my Hiker Hunger carbon fiber trekking poles for several months in all sorts of conditions. I have brought them up Mt Hood in crisp spring snow, across the Presidential Traverse in the muddy and rocky terrain of the White Mountains of New Hampshire and of course have used them on countless hikes here in Colorado. All opinions in this review are my own, but I was compensated for this review and given the poles.

Pros
- I think I HAVE to start with the weight for these Hiker Hunger carbon fiber trekking poles because boy are they light. So light, you forget you are carrying them on your bag at times.
- When used in all sorts of conditions, sure the poles get scratched up (listen, I am hard on my gear) but the functionality of the poles have not wavered.
- Love the black and green colorway
- Extremely comfortable in your hands, even after using on a 20+ mile day – no blisters formed on my hands
- No weird discoloration on your hands after long days of use
- Wide variety of functionality to use for hikers of all shapes and sizes. My wife and I can easily use these together on a long hike when one of us has to hold the dog.
- The poles come with a variety of tips and a carrying bag.
Cons
- I found that using the multiple tips turned out to be fairly useless. The muddy trails of New Hampshire took my “storage tips” and I will never see them again. Provide hikers with a snow basket and call it a day.
- While the flip locks work, they sometimes can be a bit touchy. I have found several instances when I am putting my weight into the poles where they slip into a smaller size. They remain functional, I just have to take the time to re-adjust the height. In general, the locks just take some time to get used to and require frequent adjusting while out on the trail.
- I like that the poles are collapsible, but I would love for them to be foldable too. Having the ability to fold would allow them to be stored in smaller bags on the trail and not require them to be attached to the outside of a backpack.
Hiker Hiker Carbon Fiber Trekking Poles Summary
I am VERY hard on my gear. I hike in a variety of tough conditions and don’t typically expect my gear to keep up with the environment I am in. So far, the Hiker Hunger carbon fiber trekking poles have withstood the rugged terrain and tough use from this hiker. There have been several cases where the poles got stuck in a rock and I was sure they were going to snap, but they held up. The weight of the poles is flat out amazing vs the durability and I have quickly replaced my old hiking poles with these ones.
Once you get used to the flip locks, these poles really are a great purchase. I would highly recommend them for hikers of all skill levels in a variety of terrain (snow, mud, loose rock, smooth trails etc.) I will be putting the three year warranty to the test, but so far these trekking poles have earned a great grade in my book.
