Getting Here: Sapphire Point Overlook can be accessed from either Frisco or Dillon. From Dillon, take highway 6 to Swan Mountain Road for about 3 miles until you reach the parking area on top of the hill. You can enter Sapphire Point into your favorite navigational device.
Fees: None
Parking: This hike has a small parking area that can fit between 20-30 cars. Since the hike is short, turnover is relatively quick. The parking area does have a non-plumbing bathroom as well.
Summary
Camping: Camping is not allowed on this hike but neighboring Prospector Campground is a good spot if you are looking to camp nearby. For more information about this campground, you can check out this page. Fun fact, Jackie and I got married here.
Dogs: This hike is dog friendly and a great place to walk your pup. There are poop bag dispensers at the trailhead.
Make it a Loop: This hike is a small loop. If you want to hike more in the area, head down to the trails that work around the Dillon Reservoir.
Trail X Factors: Short Hike
If you are visiting the area and want to get outside, but not take up the majority of your day, this is a great spot to go. The hike is under a mile long but offers insanely beautiful views all year round for almost zero effort.
Mick’s Tip: Bring a Picnic
Looking for a spot to enjoy an outdoor lunch? There are 2-3 picnic tables about halfway through the hike that offer a beautiful spot to enjoy nature and views of the reservoir. Whether you are planning a family trip or looking to impress a date, this is a nice spot to go.
Best Views: My favorite views on this hike are at the beginning of the hike on the west side of the trail (parking lot left side). There is a small overlook area that, in my opinion, is the best spot to take some photos.
