Directions to Stewart Falls
Trailhead: Aspen Grove
Getting Here: From Provo, take US-189 to UT92 for 5 miles to reach the Aspen Grove TH on the left. DO NOT park in any of the Sundance properties/parking areas as there is a hefty fine for doing so.
Parking: There is a massive parking lot at the start of Stewart Falls hike but this trailhead is shared by a few other popular hikes so it will fill up on busy Summer weekends. There is some additional parking along the road if the lot is full. There is a non plumbing restroom at the start of the hike.
Fees: $10 for a three day trip as of August 2024. Bring cash to pay the fee.
Summary
Camping: The best bet for camping near Stewart Falls is neighboring Mt Timpanogos Campground. There may be options to disperse car camp along the scenic byway above the parking lot as well.
Dogs: This is a dog friendly hike but the trail can be narrow in areas so please keep your dog leashed and under voice control.
Make it a Loop: This is an out and back hike but the most obvious option for additional hiking would be Mt Timpanogos which starts at the same lot. I have not hiked Timp before but can update this post in the future if I do!
Trail X Factors: Descending down to the Waterfall
As you get closer to the waterfall, there is an outlook slightly above the falls. It may be SUPER tempting to take the loose dirt down to get closer. DO NOT DO THIS. There is an actual trail directly behind the outlook area (opposite direction of the waterfall) which is a much safer way to get down. Many people have gotten injured trying to take the incorrect way down.
Hike Tip(s): Stewart Falls is a great hike when the Summer wildflowers are blooming or in the Fall if you can time it correctly with the Fall foliage. If you want to avoid crowds, get a later start (after 4 or 5PM) and you may even have the trail completely to yourself.
Best Views: The waterfall itself is the best viewpoint on this trail.
