Twin Falls Maui Hawaii Hike Trail Guide
Twin Falls is a short hike and popular swimming hole located along the Hana Highway in Maui, Hawaii. The hiking here is subpar but it’s a great spot to swim in a river and underneath some waterfalls. This hike has several spots to jump off little to medium size cliffs into the pools below. This is an EXTREMELY popular hike and swimming area because of its proximity to Kahului and its family friendly atmosphere. The Twin Falls hike is split into two parts: the lower falls and the upper falls hiking through private farm land which ends at Cave Falls.

Directions to Twin Falls Maui
Trailhead: Hana Highway
Getting Here: Assuming you are not staying in Hana, head towards Paia Town on the north shore of Maui. Once on the Hana Highway, continue east past Paia Town and drive for 15-20 minutes. Look for mile marker #2 and a bridge, from here you will see a large parking lot on the right side of the road. There is an additional parking lot past the main lot just 50-100 yards down the road.
Fees: As of March 2023, there is a $10 fee to hike Twin Falls. I am unsure if this is cash or credit card so good to have both just in case.
Parking: Parking for Twin Falls is fairly easy as there are two massive lots that can fit 50+ cars. During peak times of the day (10AM-2PM), parking can be tricky. There is usually a food truck here for food/drinks and there are several porta potties throughout the hike.
Summary
Dogs: Twin Falls in Maui is a dog friendly hike and a great place for your pup to swim as long as they are good around crowds of people.
Make it a Loop: Twin Falls Maui has several unofficial and social trails throughout the hike. In general this is an out and back hike but you could easily make several small loops throughout your hiking.
Hike Name X Factors: Crowds & Rain
As I mentioned above, this hike is extremely popular and can get quite hectic during peak hours of the day. If you want to minimize crowds, head here at the end of the day (around 3-4PM) or get to Twin Falls very early. In addition to crowds, rain can be a huge deal breaker for this hike. Most likely, if you are visiting Twin Falls you want to check out or swim in the waterfalls. During or after a big rain, the falls can close for swimming access due to flooding that can happen and can be quite dangerous. Check the weather before heading out to this one.
Hike Tips: Regardless of whether you plan on swimming or not, I highly recommend some water shoes or sandals on this hike that have decent grip. The rocks near the stream and falls can be extremely slippery and having good grip is key. Waterproof shoes allow you to experience this area without worrying about falling or getting your feet wet. There are a few stream crossings if you plan on going to the upper falls.
Best Views: Once you reach the first series of waterfalls, this hike is quite beautiful. The lower falls (there are about 3-5 of them depending on water flow) are usually the most crowded but present a number of beautiful photo options. Although the hiking to it is quite boring, the upper waterfall is the most beautiful on this hike in my opinion. This is also a great spot to swim as well with far less crowds. We even got lucky and had it to ourselves for about 10 minutes.

Our Trip to Twin Falls Maui: April 2021
Twin Falls was our final hike during our last full day in Maui. After a fun drive along the Hana Highway for the second time, we stopped at the popular swimming and hiking spot around 3PM. With lots of signage and even more trails, the hike was a bit confusing at first, but eventually we got the lay of the land. We hiked to the upper waterfall first, swam there and then headed down to the lower falls on our way out. This hike was quite boring but the swimming here was some of our favorites on the trip, despite the large crowds. Hit this one early or later in the day as part of your trip along the Hana Highway for sure!

Where is the waterfall in the beginning of your YouTube video of twin falls?? Thank you.
To be completely honest, I can’t remember the name. It was in one of the Hawaii Guide books we read before the trip but no longer have it.
is the hike to the lower waterfall stroller friendly?
For the most part it should be yes.
