Ubon 15 Degree Sleeping Bag Review
Ubon 15 Degree Sleeping Bag Review
Overnight camping is all about balancing comfort with weight in your bag and a sleeping bag is one of the big three pieces of gear (tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad) its key to get right. I have been using the same sleeping bag for years and have never had a problem but I was offered to review the Ubon 15 Degree Sleeping Bag and decided to give them a whirl. Let me tell you, I am very happy I did. For reference in this review, I am 6’0 190lbs and love to sleep on my stomach and sides.
Here are the features the sleeping bag comes with:
- Warmth: The winter Mummy Sleeping Bag is filled with 620 FP Microfiber Padding, which can minimize air mobility and effectively locks heat to keep you warm. Soft and skin-friendly lining can quickly gather heat and insulation for warmth in cold outdoor days.
- Water Repellent: High density Nylon shell covered by WR coating for water repellent which can gather the water to become the bead to slide from the surface and keep inside dry.
- Durable: 20D*400T Ripstop Nylon Shell and parallel quilted design with fine sewing craft can hold down in place and prevent leakage of padding, making this sleeping bag a best choice for your outdoor activities.
- Windproof: High density fabric is treated by Anti-Drilling Velvet Process, which makes the fabric more hermetically sealed to quickly forms a defense barrier and blocks out cold air. Draft collar with drawstring, draft tube, hood with drawstring could seal out cold too.
- Quality YKK Anti-Snag Zipper: Utilizes a YKK Anti-Snag Zippers to reduce zipper snagging effectively when you are getting in and out of your sleeping bag.
- Compression Package Storage: Tighten the adjustable straps to ultimate compressibility for easy backpacking trip.
My Review of the Ubon 15 Degree Sleeping Bag
Packability: 4.5/5 Its great that the Ubon 15 degree sleeping bag comes with a stuff sack. If you pack it up right, the sleeping bag can compress down to a size that is just larger than a couple of Nalgene bottles. I have used the stuff sack a number of times and have had a no problem with its durability or ease of use. The bag is not on the lightest end of the backpacking world, but at 3.49 lbs, its certainly good enough for most. The stuff sack is not waterproof though, so you may want to upgrade to a better suited one for rain if you do a lot of camping in areas that are wet.
Comfort: 4.5/5 I have been using my old sleeping bag for years and have never had an issue with it comfort wise. However, after sleeping in the Ubon 15 degree bag for a few nights I realized what I was missing out on with other sleeping bags. The bag is wide enough to turn it in easily, move your legs around and not feel suffocated. I have used this bag with and without a sleeping pad underneath it and had a nice nice sleeping in both cases. I would obviously always recommend using a sleeping pad, but if you are without one for whatever reason the bag has a nice layer of cushioning to keep you comfortable. In regards to comfort the only negative is that the bag does not breathe very well and is quite warm so may find yourself sleeping on top of it during summer nights.
Warmth: 4.5/5 I will be the first to admit that I generally do NOT get cold when I am sleeping at night. In fact, I even like to sleep in a tent when there is a nice chill in the air. But, we all know that when its cold out, its important to have a warm bag and the Ubon 15 Degree sleeping bag has performed excellent here as well. Its rated for 35 degrees in most situations with 15 degrees being its threshold. I can say that it easily handles 35 degree wheather and would feel comfortable taking it out for a colder night. I have used this bag for 10+ nights with temperatures ranging from 35-50 degrees and do not feel that I have even scratched the surface of what it is capable of on the colder end. Since its such a warm bag though, I would be hesitant to use this when night time lows are higher than 60 degrees or you will probably be sweating a lot. The bag does keep you warm, but lacks a bit in breathability as well.
Durability: 5/5 Durability is a tough one to measure after only 10 or so nights using, but I have had absolutely no issues so far. I have used the Ubon 15 degree sleeping bag on backpacking trips, in the pouring rain, without a sleeping pad and it has done nothing but killed it. After one night in the rain, it was a tad wet but quickly dried and had no affect on my next night’s sleep. The YKK zipper system is truly great as well. Time will tell if it holds up, but so far so good!
Verdict: 4.5/5 Before reviewing the Ubon 15 degree sleeping bag, I thought my other sleeping bag was fine. After using it for just a handful of nights, it has replaced my old bag and now finds itself as my go to camping bag. It is lightweight, packable and most important, very comfortable to sleep in. I am not sure it would hang with 15 degree temps, but it can certainly keep you comfortable with 30-35 degrees with zero problems. Its two main flaws would be breatheability and that it can sometimes be TOO warm. Overall though, for the price point and all the features it has, I would highly recommend the Ubon 15 Degree Sleeping bag for most backpackers, hikers and car campers.
